Are you studying space or the solar system in your homeschool? Whenever I am building a unit study for my children to learn I think of three things.
- Book or video
- Hands-on Activity
- Writing
First, I select a book or a video for my children to learn from. This is a foundation for our lesson.
Then, I look for hands-on activities for them to do. This can be a game or a science experiment. I really want them to experience what we are learning.
The final thing that I do is have them write about what they have learned. You can base your requirement on the age of your child. For kindergartners and first graders, I will have them write simple sentences or some space-themed vocabulary words. For my second graders through high school students, I will have them draft an age-appropriate essay about space. You could even turn it into a research paper if you want too.
I hope these space ideas will get you started!
